About the exhibition
Our whole lives are shaped and lived through stories; these can be true events, memories, experiences, family histories, beliefs, culture, facts or fiction. A Native American proverb says: ‘Tell me the facts and I’ll learn. Tell me the truth and I’ll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever’.
This exhibition’s title originates from a quote by Margaret Atwood: “we lived in the gaps between the stories” from The Handmaid’s Tale. The gaps in our stories can be perturbing even unsettling. There may be missing information, rendering a story incomplete, or a gap may be a disconnect between several stories. These gaps and the stories we tell in their various forms, both real and imagined, are the inspiration for this collection of works.
Broadway's Gallery can be accessed via our main entrance but also has direct access from Heathcoat Street. Broadway’s design and innovation spaces are fully wheelchair accessible, with ramps and lift access from Broadway’s Box Office.
