Grief-stricken John and Laura Baxter travel to Venice where John is working to restore a crumbling church. There, they meet two elderly sisters, one of whom is psychic and brings a terrible warning from beyond. Whilst Laura quickly falls under their spell, her husband remains sceptical – but as inexplicable and disturbing events start to pile up, John begins to spiral out of control.
