Black Lives Matter

As weeks go by within the confines of a locked down world, the past week of demonstrations has been ground-breaking, devastating, hopeful and challenging, as people across the globe have come together to protest in the shadow of the brutal murder of George Floyd and to support “Black Lives Matter”.

Broadway supports the Black Lives Matter international human rights movement. As an arts organisation, we hope that our audiences feel that we contribute positively to the racial discourse in Nottingham through our programming of films, events, panels and workshops.

Our staff Equality, Diversity & Inclusion group works to ensure that the objectives we have set out are achieved and are at the core of everything we do at Broadway. We also recognise there is more we can do and much we can learn from the experience of others across the UK.

This is a moment in history against which people and organisations will be judged and we are committed to continue to educate and evaluate ourselves within this context.

The lockdown has meant we are closed and has left us with minimal resources but the outpouring of emotion at these events over the weekend has made us even more aware of our responsibilities and reaffirmed our commitment to the community once we reopen. This is a moment in history against which people and organisations will be judged and we are committed to continuing to educate and evaluate ourselves within this context.

Black lives matter and Broadway will continue to provide a platform for Black stories, Black experiences and Black voices but we want to get better and we hope you’ll come on this journey with us.

We look forward to returning soon and living up to your expectations.
