Mass walkouts were reported on the European festival circuit when Takashi Miike’s ultimate ‘discomfort movie’ premiered in 2000. While Miike’s star was already on the rise, it was Audition that would see the director become a leading figure in the J-horror boom. When widowed Shigharu decides it's time to find a new wife, he’s encouraged by a friend to try auditioning new partners. He soon becomes enchanted by 24-year-old Asami, who isn’t what she appears to be.
