In this policy, “Broadway” means Nottingham Media Centre Limited (charity number 700880) and its trading subsidiary NMC Commercial Limited (company number 6372815), both of 14–18 Broad Street, Nottingham NG1 3AL. “Broadway” is the trading name used across our services.

This policy applies to all Broadway websites, including www.broadway.org.uk.

  • Website usage data (pages visited, actions taken, how you arrived at our site)
  • Cookie and tracking data (only with your consent — see the Cookies section below)

Profiling and advertising

If you consent to advertising cookies, we may analyse your activity on our website to understand your interests and show you relevant Broadway adverts on Facebook and Instagram. This is known as retargeting.

If you have opted in to email marketing, we may also use your hashed email address to create Custom Audiences on Meta platforms. This helps us re‑engage lapsed audiences and promote relevant content.

We explain this in more detail in the “Targeted Advertising” section.

Why Do We Use Your Information?

1. To fulfil transactions and membership

Legal basis: Contract

We use your information to process ticket purchases, café bar transactions, memberships, and gift card purchases.

2. To send you marketing communications

Legal basis: Consent

Where you have opted in, we may send you information about:

  • Film programme
  • Café Bar
  • Non‑film events
  • Specialist programming
  • Special offers and new products
  • Fundraising and campaigns

You can withdraw consent at any time using the link in our emails or by contacting us.

3. For market research

Legal basis: Consent

We may contact you to invite you to take part in voluntary surveys that help us improve our services.

4. For targeted advertising and audience development

Legal basis: Consent (for cookies), Legitimate Interests (for audience matching)

We use:

  • Meta Pixel (only if you have consented to advertising cookies)
  • Audience matching and Lookalike Audiences via Meta (Facebook and Instagram)
  • Dotdigital to securely share hashed email addresses with Meta

This helps us:

  • Re‑engage past customers
  • Show adverts to customers with similar interests
  • Promote content relevant to our audiences

A Legitimate Interests Assessment (LIA) has been carried out to ensure this activity is proportionate and respects your privacy rights (see summary below).

You can opt out at any time.

For certain activities (such as Custom Audiences), Broadway and Meta act as joint controllers. Meta is responsible for how it processes matched data within its platform.

5. Reporting to our funders

Legal basis: Legitimate Interests

We share anonymous and aggregated performance data with:

  • The British Film Institute (BFI)
  • Arts Council England

This information cannot identify individuals and is used only for performance reporting.

We only share your information with organisations that help us deliver our services. These partners act either as data processors or independent controllers, depending on the activity.

We have agreements in place with all data processors.

Targeted Advertising and Audience Development

The Meta Pixel

If you accept advertising cookies, the Meta Pixel on our website may collect information about:

  • Pages you view
  • Purchases you make
  • How you navigate our site

This helps us:

  • Measure advertising performance

  • Show relevant adverts to you on Facebook and Instagram (retargeting)

You can change your cookie preferences at any time.

Custom Audiences

If you have given consent to receive email marketing, we may share your hashed (one‑way encrypted) email address with Meta. Meta uses this to check whether you have a Facebook or Instagram account.

Your email address is never shared in readable form.

Lookalike Audiences

Meta may use our Custom Audience to identify users with similar characteristics. No additional personal data is shared.

International data transfers

Meta’s US infrastructure is covered by the UK–US Data Bridge, an approved mechanism for UK–US data transfers.

Retention

Hashed audience‑matching data is stored only for the duration of a campaign and then removed in line with Meta’s retention processes.

You can opt out at any time by:

  • Changing your cookie preferences
  • Unsubscribing from marketing emails
  • Managing your Facebook/Instagram ad preferences
