BFI Film Academy Short Course

Broadway trains and inspires the next generation of filmmakers.

As a course provider for the BFI Film Academy UK Network Programme for the past nine years, Broadway has helped 172 talented young people from every background take their first step into a career in the film industry.

After developing their practical knowledge and skills through training led by award-winning experienced professionals working across all roles in the film industry, course participants team up to make three short films that are premiered at a special gala screening with a public Q&A at Broadway.

"This course allowed me to increase my knowledge of the film industry and it helped me to better understand what roles I'm suited to. I also met brilliant and creative people, and we were able to make a film together"

Atalya Hewing, 2021 graduate

Successful alumni stories include paid traineeships on major feature film productions, including: Solo: A Star Wars StoryFantastic Beasts: The Crimes of GrindelwaldStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Bond: No Time To Die and Cruella.

WANT TO BE PART OF THE NEXT GENERATION OF FILMMAKERS?

Broadway is looking for 18 committed and passionate young people aged 16-19 from all backgrounds to be part of our future film industry. You don’t need any experience to apply, just lots of enthusiasm!

Our BFI Film Academy offers an inclusive and supportive experience through a fourteen-week process of practical and theoretical masterclasses delivered by respected film industry professionals. Students will receive first-hand accounts of, not only of what their jobs involve, but the journeys they took to get there.

Once you have completed the course, you will become part of the ever-growing BFI Film Academy Alumni network, with access to events such as BAFTA career talks, training masterclasses, paid traineeship placements at Pinewood Studios and jobs and exclusive residential programmes.

This year, Broadway will be delivering blended activity that will take place online and in-person. The scheduled activity will take place on weeknights and in the day at weekends, between Thursday 21 October 2021 and Saturday 12 February 2022.

If you have the talent, we’ll make sure you can attend! It will cost £25 to be a student on our course - if you think you will struggle to pay this, we urge you to still apply, as bursaries are available. Information regarding bursaries will be sent to successful applicants.

How do I apply? Applications are closed for 2021-22.
