Dementia Friendly Screenings

Our Dementia Friendly Screenings aim to make cinema more accessible to local dementia communities by providing a fun and inclusive experience to enable people living with dementia, their families and carers to attend the cinema in a safe and welcoming environment.

The screenings take place bi-monthly on the final Monday of the month at 1.30pm. The programme is a combination of specially selected classic movies and musicals.

The screenings are enhanced to suit the needs of people living with dementia; the lights are left on low, there are no adverts or trailers and the audience is allowed to move around - and sing along to any musical numbers! - should they wish to. Visitors will be supported by trained Dementia Friends staff.

The cinema will be open for an hour before the screening starts so that people can familiarise themselves with the space, and there will be an interval halfway through the film for free tea, coffee and biscuits to be served.

Tickets are £3.90, with a free place for an accompanying carer.

Supportive Environment Screenings

Our Supportive Environment Screenings are for children on the autism spectrum and their families, friends and carers.

Children with autism are sensitive to sound and light and they can find going to the cinema stressful. So, during Supportive Environment Screenings, low lights are left on in the auditorium and the volume of the soundtrack is reduced. And it’s fine for customers to move around, make noise or take a break during the film.

Tickets are £3.90, or £2 for under 16s.

Captioned Screenings

These screenings have Captioned Subtitles for the Deaf and hard of hearing. As well as reproducing dialogue, captions describe additional non-dialogue sound available to a hearing audience, e.g. “(sighs)” or “(door creaks)” and song lyrics.
