What’s Up, Doc? was the second collaboration between director Peter Bogdanovich and production designer (and Bogdanovich’s ex-wife) Polly Platt. Still a largely unknown name, much of Polly’s work went uncredited. But alongside her production design work, she was known in the industry as an incredibly influential producer, scriptwriter, and networker.

An homage to the classic screwball comedies of the 1930s and ‘40s, What’s Up, Doc? stars Ryan O’Neal as Howard Bannister, a musicologist visiting San Francisco seeking a grant to fund his research project. Opposite him, Barbra Streisand is on top form as a fast-talking college drop-out who pursues Howard with reckless abandon.
