CREATURE FEATURES: THE STRANGE HISTORY OF THE MONSTER MOVIE

From the original 1933 KING KONG through to the Japanese Kaiju films of the 50s and 60s, Ray Harryhausen’s stop frame animation, JAWS and JURASSIC PARK, cinemagoers have long since been fascinated by the onscreen midnight monster. Whether used as political metaphor, a stark warning about the rise of weaponry and technology or simply a method for showcasing the silver screen spectacular, the monster has proved itself to be hugely popular with audiences in Hollywood and beyond. Featuring plenty of clips and discussion, the course will tap into myths, legends and modern anxieties and will highlight many classic and cult offerings including, GODZILLA, DR. JEKYLL AND MR HYDE, THE WOLF MAN, NIGHT OF THE DEMON, THE FLY, THE BIRDS and many, many more.
