Broadway donates cinema seats to Nottingham Arts Theatre
As part of our summer renovation works, we will be donating 268 seats from our iconic Screen 1 to the Nottingham Arts Theatre.
The approaching planned seating upgrades have left us with the challenge of what to do with the outgoing seats that were still in a great condition, but were now out of step with what audiences expect from a modern cinema experience.
Director of Marketing and Communications, Stewart Terry said “With Screen 1, 2 and 4 all being renovated to improve comfort levels we have had a number of seats to find new homes for. Not many places have the space to take on such a big challenge, so it was fortuitous that we saw that our friends across the road were running a new seat appeal.”

With the theatre’s seats being several years old and coming to the end of their life, Broadway’s offer of seat donation could not have come at a better time for the Arts Theatre. Their Chairman Campbell Kay said: ““We are extremely grateful to Broadway for their generous gift of replacement seats. These will greatly enhance our auditorium and give our audiences a much more comfortable theatre-going experience. As we come to the end of our 70th anniversary season this is a fitting legacy to bequeath to future generations of theatre-goers and we are delighted that Broadway's generosity has made this possible””

Broadway CEO Steve Mapp is excited about our renovation works starting in June but also the fact that the old seats will be staying close-by, “We have a deep affection for the old seats that have served Broadway well over the years and we know that the audiences at the Arts Theatre will be extremely happy with them. As an arts charity ourselves, supporting the local creative community is important to Broadway so it makes sense to work closely with our neighbours to improve their facilities and ensure audiences keep coming back to the area.”
Our renovation works include upgrading seats but also the installation of 7.1 sound, new hearing loops and 4k projection in Screen 1. Steve Mapp added, “Audiences expect the very best audio-visual experience and comfort levels when coming to Broadway so to continue offering that along with the most eclectic films from across the world is fantastic for Nottingham.”
Broadway Cinema's renovation work starts on Monday 3 June and will take place over 2 months in Screens 1, 2 and 4. During this time seats, sound and screens will be upgraded. Disruption will be kept to a minimum during this time but there will be minor changes to our programme. Check our What's On for the most up to date programme information.
