About NG83

Your support is needed to help document a cultural phenomenon in a film that has the potential to reach a global audience...

Donkey Stone Films, in partnership with Futurist Films, is working on a feature length documentary about the Hip Hop/Breakdancing explosion in the UK in the early 1980s and the profound effect it had on a generation of British youth.

NG83 focuses on the vibrant scene that emerged in Nottingham - a city that played host to the infamous Rock City Saturday afternoon jams, which were an institution for breakdancers from all over the UK (including a young Goldie with Wolverhampton B-Boys and Jason Orange with his Manchester crew Street Machine). The documentary combines present-day interviews with the original B-Boys and B-Girls, alongside archive photos, flyers and previously unseen video footage, to shine a light on a movement that shaped the lives of many. Through the recollections of the larger-than-life characters that made up the scene, the film tells the dynamic story of the rise and fall of breakdancing, and the crews that battled one another to be the best.

NG83 will be the first attempt to document this important era of British youth culture on film.

Hundreds of hours of interviews have been shot, and extensive archive footage has been rescued and restored from decaying VHS tapes (and will be donated to the Media Archive for Central England for preservation purposes). The project is currently at the editing stage, and is due to be completed by Spring 2011 – but to get there we need YOU to help us! here
