US World Premiere for Broadway filmmaker

US World Premiere for Broadway filmmaker

We are delighted to announce that Broadway-based filmmaker Jeanie Finlay’s latest film will receive a prestigious World Premiere at this year's SXSW (South By Southwest) film and music festival.

The Great Hip Hop Hoax will screen at the world-famous festival in Austin, Texas alongside a stellar line up of documentaries and gala events featuring the likes of Danny Boyle, Harmony Korine and The Flaming Lips.

Jeanie’s previous film Sound It Out won widespread praise for its often hilarious but always heartfelt portrayal of the staff and regulars that frequented the last independent record shop in Teesside.

The Great Hip Hop Hoax centres on Silibil N’ Brains, two rappers on the verge of international stardom when things start to fall apart due to the 'California homeboys' actually being a pair of students from Dundee. The film tells the story of how the duo reinvented themselves after being mocked as the “rapping Proclaimers” and what happens when you fake everything for fame.

URGENT! Volunteers needed for film festival

Barton's Spectacular, Spectacular needs YOU!

Volunteers are needed for a festival of cult and classic films this weekend.

The Cambridge Film Festival (in collaboration with the Media Archive of Central England and Broadway) is presenting 3 spectacular days of film screenings at the unique Barton's Garage in Chilwell, Nottingham from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th February.

Barton's Spectacular, Spectacular will bring together specially programmed local archive film, family friendly features and old classics, all screened amongst the vintage buses with the unique backdrop of Nottingham's historic bus garages.

The weekend will be a film extravaganza, with up to two cinemas running simultaneously, including world renowned film accompanist Neil Brand performing on the Saturday. There will also be local food vendors, glitter-balls and a vintage costume theme.

Volunteer stewards are needed to help out with this very special event. Stewards will lend a hand on the box office, guide the public through the event, help the public with headphones for the 'silent' screens, take feedback and generally help out.

This is a great experience for anyone interested in event management, festivals, outdoor events or simply with a passion for film! Volunteers would need to be free from 5.30pm on Friday 22nd, and 3pm on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th and be able to make your own way to the venue.
