Broadway opens £115,000 'Foreshadow Film Fund'

Broadway in Nottingham has opened its film investment fund which, at its launch, stands at £115,000. The fund will support the development of feature-length fiction and documentary films and the production of feature-length documentary films. Broadway is looking to initially invest £40,000 of the fund in about six projects, with maximum investments of £10,000.

John Tobin, Broadway’s Development Director, who heads the fund, says “as a cinema managing a film investment fund we’re in a unique position. We’d like audiences to engage with films and the talent behind them from the very start, to create that moment of recognition when the films go on to reach our screens. It’s why we’ve chosen the name Foreshadow Film Fund.”

Ahead of opening this new fund, Broadway made an investment in Jeanie Finlay’s ORION: The Man Who Would Be King which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, won the Gibson Music Films/Music City Competition Grand Jury Prize at the Nashville Film Festival and has been nominated for the Grand Jury Award at Sheffield Doc/Fest where it will have its UK premiere on 6 June 2015. Other financiers of the film are Creative England, Ffilm Cymru Wales and BBC Storyville.

Broadway also recently co-commissioned and Executive Produced Nelly Ben Hayoun’s Disaster Playground which premiered at SXSW, screening in its Visions section, and is receiving its UK premiere at Sheffield Doc/Fest on June 8 2015.

Mayhem returns to Broadway this autumn

Save the date! Mayhem Film Festival returns to Broadway for all things eerie this autumn. This year’s festival will take place in 15 – 18 October with previews, special guests and midnight screenings.

Now in its 11th year, Mayhem Film Festival has grown from a single short film programme to a four-day event, offering the best horror, sci-fi and cult short and feature films from around the world. Over the years, Mayhem has welcome numerous filmmakers such as Canada’s cult heroes Astron-6 and hosted exceptional events such as masterclasses with Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) and Mike Hodges (Get Carter, Black Rainbow), specially-commissioned live scores from 8MM Orchestra, and a screening of Don’t Look Now at St Mary’s Church with British Director Nicolas Roeg.

This year, Mayhem Film Festival moves away from its traditional Halloween slot to reflect its much broader programme. Originally created as a horror film festival, Mayhem has expanded its horizons, looking at the darker side of sci-fi and cult cinema and television, whilst keeping its core horror focus. Last year, Mayhem also hosted Teen Mayhem, a day of events dedicated to pre-teens and young teenagers with a curiosity for the genre.

Chris Cooke, Mayhem co-founder said: “Mayhem will continue to bring the cutting edge of cult, sci-fi and horror to our enthusiastic and expanding audience – we hope to have a few more surprises in store for everyone as the festival grows!"

Planning is currently underway for Mayhem’s 11th edition with more information and announcements coming soon. Mayhem Film Festival will take place at Broadway, Nottingham on 15 – 18 October 2015. For more information about Mayhem please visit
