The masterpiece of Bangladeshi director Tareque Masud, THE CLAY BIRD won the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes 2002. As Bangladesh gains independence in 1960, a young boy is sent to a madrasa by his devout Muslim father. But the divisions both within his family and within the country are not so easily resolved. A complex modern portrayal of Islam in a film as visually compelling as it is poetic.

Paul McGarr from the University of Nottingham will introduce this screening.

This film will screen from a 35mm print.
