Shame 18
Thu 8 Mar - Book Now
Director: Steve McQueen
Cast: Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan
Origin: United Kingdom
Duration: 100m
Hunger put Steve McQueen on the map as a remarkably promising new filmmaker. That promise is fulfilled, and surpassed, with his second directorial effort, Shame. A searing examination of sexual compulsion, the film features extraordinary performances from Michael Fassbender who plays Brandon, a seemingly normal New Yorker trapped by his erotic compulsions and Carey Mulligan who plays Sissy, Brandon's needy, neurotic sister. When Sissy shows up at his apartment in emotional freefall, their collision sends both siblings reeling. Shame is a frank and fearless exploration of sexual need and how it shapes our lives. AFI FEST

This film is absolutely depressing and comes as a short story about emotional loss. Some people complain about the missing background, but this is the films strength. It is McQueen's idea of a film and it works perfectly. Fassbender and Mulligan are outstanding. Probably one of the best films this/last year.
