A curious blend of newsreel propaganda with a dark, dreamlike twist, A Canterbury Tale explores the parallels and differences between US and UK culture.
The plot revolves around the deeds of a mysterious attacker, responsible for pouring glue into the hair of girls who fraternise with US troops. These acts are perhaps motivated by sexual repression and symbolise English resistance to the permissiveness of visiting US troops.
As the perpetrator is tracked down, each character engages in their own individual pilgrimage, culminating in closure and redemption at the end of their journey in war-torn Canterbury.
