Viceroy's House 12A

Director: Gurinder Chadha
Cast: Gillian Anderson, Hugh Bonneville, Manish Dayal, Michael Gambon

Country: UK / India
Year: 2017
Duration: 106m
In 1947, Lord Mountbatten assumed the post of last Viceroy, charged with handing India back to its people. In the Viceroy’s house the political elite wrangled upstairs over India’s independence, whilst 500 Hindu, Muslim and Sikh servants lived downstairs. But when conflict erupted throughout the house, it led to the Partition of India. Gurinder Chadha’s deeply personal film examines those events through the prism of both a marriage and a romance, as the lovers find themselves caught up in the seismic end of an Empire.
