In the late 1950s, free-spirited widow Florence Green decides to open a bookshop in the sleepy coastal town of Hardborough, and expose the conservative locals to the best literature of the time, including Nabokov’s ‘Lolita’ and Bradbury’s ‘Fahrenheit 451’. But whilst some welcome the new literary horizons, others aren’t yet ready for this cultural awakening. Emily Mortimer is delightful as Florence, a woman willing to take her life into her own hands and change perceptions, in this celebration of bibliophilia.
