Near Now

fanSHEN presents: The Justice Syndicate U

A top surgeon accused of a serious crime. Conviction would mean planned operations will not go ahead – and the evidence is far from conclusive. Or is this just another case of someone so important they’re above justice?

The Justice Syndicate is a piece of playable theatre drawing on a jury format. It asks how we make decisions, how we deal with our preconceptions, and how much you’d want strangers making judgments about you based on the contents of your phone.

Power and privilege; trust and technology; thought and action.
How will you vote?

Come along and be part of the first audiences for this collaboration between immersive theatre company fanSHEN, computational artist Joe McAlister and neuroscientist Dr Kris De Meyer.

Along with 11 other ‘jury members’, you’ll be asked to review evidence, consider arguments and arrive at a verdict: guilty or not guilty?

If you’re a fan of The Good Wife, Law and Order or Ally McBeal; if you’ve always wanted to make that 11th hour intervention where you change everyone’s minds; or if you’re just quite interested in what makes people tick, this 90 minute game is for you.

The Justice Syndicate is supported by the Near Now Fellowship. Near Now is Broadway's studio for arts, design and innovation. Supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
