Standard Operating Procedure

Photographs taken by soldiers in Abu Ghraib prison changed the war in Iraq and changed America's image of itself. Using the notorious photographs of prisoner abuse and interviews with the soldiers who were directly implicated in the scandal, S.O.P. takes the viewer to an uneasy place, where the distinction between "Standard Operating Procedures" and "Criminal Acts" become shrouded by ambiguity.

Introduction

The film will be introduced by Dr Rod Thornton, lecturer in terrorism, counter-insurgency and modern warfare at University of Nottingham, and former member of the British Army.

Standard Operating Procedure
is being screened as part of the Human Rights Film Season at Broadway, a selection of human rights-themed films inspired by experiences of counter-terrorism strategies. The season has been programmed in conjunction with the Human Rights Law Centre at the University of Nottingham.
