Mike Leigh comes up with a film in praise of looking on the bright
side of life (yes, you read that correctly!) with plenty of laugh-out-loud
moments and countless chuckles (yes, you read that correctly, too!).
He takes as his heroine the irrepressibly positive primary school
teacher Poppy, a 30-something North Londoner who takes bicycle theft,
raving madmen and singledom in her stride, but also proves how disconcerting
such cheer can be to other people not naturally disposed to it.
