EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Broadway's
unique Education and Training Programme is central to our commitment
to offer a distinctive cinema-going experience for our audience. For
those coming to see films at Broadway, you will see that education
includes:
:: Short introductions to films screening as part of the main programme
:: Introductions and post-film question-and-answer sessions with the
filmmakers themselves
:: Illustrated talks on specific film genres or the work of particular
directors
Broadway also runs daytime and evening courses for anyone interested
in learning more about cinema. We offer courses in three main seasons
(roughly following the academic year). These include:
:: Introductions to film studies
:: Surveys of national cinemas
:: Courses on particular types of film (e.g. film noir).
The courses are open to anyone with an interest in cinema. Groups
are small enough to encourage participation and are led by experienced
tutors, many of whom are academics from local universities.
We also provide more practically oriented courses for those wishing
to learn more about making a film. These are run by professionals
and benefit from their experience of working as practitioners. Courses
include Scriptwriting and Directing Drama.
Following the legacy left by Intemedia Film & Video (for further details
see 'The Background Story' below), Broadway continues to offer film
and video production expertise through bespoke training projects.
We have worked recently with schools, museums and drama groups across
the East Midlands giving young people of all ages a unique creative
learning experience. Broadway work closely with the local film-making
community, often employing freelance tutors and industry professionals
to work with young people on our projects. If you have a project in
mind or if you are interested in finding out more information please

THE
BACKGROUND STORY
As an organisation Broadway has a vast amount of experience in film
and video production. In 2004, Broadway merged with Intermedia Film
& Video, an organization dedicated to encouraging and supporting film
development across the East Midlands. Intermedia has developed and
produced a number of features, shorts, documentaries, community and
educational projects over the years, working and collaborating with
organizations including the UK film council, BBC, Filmfour, Carlton
TV, ITV, First light and Heritage lottery.
Intermedia Film & Video's legacy is best defined through the 'Headstart'
production training course. 'Headstart' concentrated specifically
on film and video and ran over a year period. It was a huge accomplishment,
with many graduates going successfully into the film industry as freelancers
and producers in their own right. Particular success stories include
feature film directors Shane Meadows (Dead Man's Shoes and
This is England), Steven Sheil (Mum & Dad) and Chris
Cooke (One for the Road), documentary director Jeanie Finlay
(Love Bites, Teenland), as well as producers Al Clark
and Rachel Robey who make up Wellington films (London to Brighton).
Many of the above have continued to work, not only within the region,
but within Broadway.
Since the merger, Broadway has continued to develop and support film
production and the freelance community throughout the East Midlands.
Collaborating with a number of high profile organizations including
the NHS, City council, Victim Support Nottingham and the Media Trust.
Recently Broadway has worked on a number of educational projects with
young people including schools groups, colleges and community groups.
Broadway continues to bring a creative and innovative approach to
film production and education. Through our production facilities and
links with professional technicians and creative artists, we are able
to offer a high standard of bespoke technical training and ideas development.
